What does a post-covid look like for shipping?

“NO SEAFARERS = NO Shipping = NO Shopping, I would like to take this opportunity to address the importance of crew change crisis in the maritime industry. I believe this pandemic Covid-19 in general has brought attention to the importance of mental health as everyone is literally aware of the feeling of being “stuck” at where they are. And now, try to imagine those proud seafarers who are carrying out their extraordinary duties away from their families for months at sea.

These unsung heroes experienced a lot of challenges around themselves while serving onboard, physically and mentally. While we are moving forward with greater innovations, ideas and high-end technologies; I do hope that basic things like humanity can be put at higher priority in the maritime industry, because seafarers serving onboard sometimes break without coffee but most of the time, coffee without breaks, that’s life at sea.”

What does a post-covid look like for shipping?

What does a post-covid look like for shipping?

“While the shipping industry is a great facilitator of global trade business and prosperity – its also the sector right in the middle of global supply chains, feeling the heat when they are all disrupted by the ‘first wave of Covid-19 recovery’.

While the box sector is ‘on fire’, the tankers can’t catch a break from appalling demand – and bulker once again appreciated the support of China. When the ‘next normal’ will arrive is a tricky one to call, but during 2022 – some sort of Business As Usual should be back. Most likely in the form an opposite market to the one we have today – as consumer starts spending money of other things than goods, China unwinds its stimulus-classic push to support its economy, and global oil demand gets thoroughly past the pre-covid level.”

What does a post-covid look like for shipping?

“A post-COVID shipping world looks much like the pre-COVID world, except there’s a lot more stressed-out crews, and a lot more money in the system, for now at least. Beyond that, no-one knows, except the margin for error is even greater than usual for such predictions.”
