Welcome to the Marine Gallery of August 2018, a monthly segment on our blog featuring the five best pictures of every month, selected by members of the MarineTraffic Photo Moderators. These could include images of vessels, ports or lighthouses from around the world.

ROTRA_MARE MarineTraffic marine gallery August 2018
The Rotra Mare was built in 2008 and is sailing under the Dutch flag. Her home port is Werkendam and she has a sister vessel, Rotra Vente. The vessels were developed to transport wind turbine components in Europe, between production and installation facilities. This photo of the Rotra Mare was taken in the Kiel Canal.

 

RED_JET_7 MarineTraffic marine gallery August 2018
This high speed craft is named Red Jet 7. She was launched on June 6 2018, and sails under the English flag, commuting between Southampton and Cowes. Here she was spotted at Cowes, a seaport town on the Isle of Wight. The town is located on the west bank of the estuary of River Medina.

 

SENJA MarineTraffic marine gallery August 2018
The Senja is a general cargo vessel sailing under the Maltese flag. She has two sister vessels, the Sanna and the Silda. She was built in 2009, is 147.5 metres long and a deadweight of 16,825 tonnes. She was spotted in the 98 km long Kiel Canal, which is reported to have saved every vessel about 250 nautical miles going through it instead of going around the Jutland Peninsula.

 

GULDEN_LEEUW MarineTraffic marine gallery August 2018
This enormous sailing vessel is the Gulden Leeuw. She is among the largest three-mast-topsail schooners in the world. She was built in 1937, sails under the Dutch flag and is 53.2 metres long. She has sailed as a research, supply and a training ship for a Danish nautical college. She was spotted in Wadden Sea, which is located in the southeastern part of the North Sea.

 

CC_ATLANTIQUE MarineTraffic marine gallery August 2018
The CC Atlantic is a heavy lift cargo barge. Built in 2010, it is 122 metres long and has a deadweight of 20,148 tonnes. It was spotted in Nieuwe Waterweg, which means “New Waterway”. It is a 20 km long ship canal in the Netherlands, extending from het Scheur west of the town of Maassluis, to the North Sea at Hook of Holland.
