Release Updates

A new communication channel between our users and our products is now introduced in order to convey new features, recent changes, improvements, feature enhancements and bug fixes.

Frequent product distribution can now be easily monitored through this communication channel, and here are the latest release updates for 2022 and 2021, starting from the most recent ones below:

August 2022

New features

  • Carrier events added in Shipments Details pages: (August 3) Change in the VFC Shipments Details Page. More specifically, a table with all Carrier Track & Trace events was added for providing extra valuable information to customers and end users. This table will be visible to all tracking shipments. — Available to all users

July 2022

Improvements

  • Density Maps update: (July 6) New release update for the MarineTraffic mobile app (iOS and Android) that includes many new features like Advanced Fleet Management, Explore Tool, Vessel Valuation and many more. Density Maps in mobile app now include coverage for 2020 and 2021. — Available to all users
  • Corporate account invitation: In this update, when a user sends an invite for a corporate account to register to MarineTraffic, he gets full visibility of who joined and who is pending.  — Available to all users

June 2022

Improvements

  • Past-track: (June 29) When the user presses either the vessel icon or the “view on map” option at a specific position/event of the DET historical pages, then the past-track is centred on the position/event of interest, having a range of +/- 6 hours. — Available to all users
  • Playback: Area play track mode: The playback animation starts playing immediately after the selection of the parameters of the play track modal. — Available to all users

New feature

  • Playback: (June 29) Vessels mode: show “waypoints” in playback (there is now this new option chip) waypoints chip enables the waypoints and the past-track polyline, while on playback. — Available to all logged-in users

May 2022

Improvements

  • Playback redesign: (May 11) Playback and Past track features have been merged into one unique tool in order to provide a common UI and functional experience. — Available to all users
  • Port Congestion – Waiting Off Port Limits (OPL) hover messages improved: (May 11) While prior to this change users were able to see only the time at anchorage, the real monitoring revealed to us that vessel in order to minimize their time (and expenses in anchorages) are waiting even further away. So now in the Explore tool, users of the Port Congestion service can see the total off-port limits that a vessel usually spent time in. — Available to all users with the Port Congestion service

New feature

  • Terminal Details Pages: (May 17) Aiming to provide greater visibility on how a Terminal is utilised which helps further optimise operations, we launched the Terminal Details Pages. — All users can access some of the information on this page while full access is available to users with the Professional Plus Plan
  • New zoom level visibility on MarineTraffic Live Map: (May 25) Zoom level has been added on the top right corner in between the Zoom-In/Zoom-Out buttons. Now, users can check their map view’s zoom level and have better control of their navigation on the MarineTraffic Live Map. — Available to all users

April 2022

New features

  • All areas/any type of area: (April 20) Although in the past, a vessel could only be combined with a Custom Area, now a vessel or a fleet even can be enabled with any type of area. — Available to all users
  • Density Maps: (April 20) The 2021 Density Maps for all traffic is now available on the MarineTraffic online application. — Available to all users

Fixed issues

  • Live Map Layers: (April 20) Fixed bug that made the Russian JWC Area appear as broken on the Live Map. — Available to all Advanced Live Map through Professional and Professional Plus plan users

March 2022

New feature

  • InTransit Visibility for Containers (VFC) now includes a new URL with the web-view of Shipment Details: (March 16) A new web-view URL has been added to each shipment response enabling users to share it with all stakeholders to get shipment status updates, anytime, from anywhere. Optimised both for mobile and desktop devices, the new web-view visualises the most important information of the shipment response in a beautiful UI and gets refreshed at each page load. In addition, the new web view includes a map with the latest real-time position of the vessel carrying the shipment, or the current location of the shipment if at a port.  To support this new web view, and also to help with easier integration of key information in our customers’ systems, the shipment response header now includes a number of additional fields that we hope will make integrations that much easier. — Available free of charge for our InTransit VFC solution customers, added to their existing service.

February 2022

New feature

  • New Vessel Valuations feature added: (February 20) Vessel Valuations are now available on every tanker and dry bulk.  — Available to users

Improvement

  • Data Services (API): (February 23) A new version of VD02 – Vessel Particulars API service is released that includes additional information fields on its simple response. — Available to API users

December 2021

Improvements

  • Vessel Details Page: (December 1) Users can now use the quickview functionality & design on the Vessel Detail page on Desktop. Available to all users
  • Data Exploration: (December 15) A new filter “Voyage State” was added to the Vessels database dataset. — Available to all users with Voyage Data or with Professional, Professional Plus plans
  • Live Map: (December 23) Users can now get notified and quickly access a wide range of announcements (including marketing promotions, product announcements and onboarding content) thanks to the design and UI implementation of a Notifications tool on the platform. — Available to all users
  • InTransit Visibility for Containers (VFC) API solution: All Track & Trace milestone event types are now included, both sea and land-based, container and vessel specific.Available to InTransit VFC API solution users

November 2021

Improvements

  • Port Details: (November 3) Users can now access redesigned Port Details Pages. Available to all users 
  • Live Map: (November 10) Users can now copy the coordinates from the Live Map by right-clicking on a given point. — Available to all users
  • Weather Maps: (November 24) Users can now see the Tropical Strom layer more easily as it is moved higher up on the sidebar. Available to all users
  • InTransit Visibility for Containers (VFC) API solution: The full transportation plan of a shipment including all Carrier sea Track & Trace events, all relevant vessel stops, transhipments, locations and vessel information is now included in the API response. Available to InTransit VFC API solution users
  • InTransit VFC API solution: Actual AIS-based arrivals/departures in each vessel stop including Port of Load and Transhipment ports are now included, both to anchorage areas and port areas. Available to InTransit VFC API solution users
  • InTransit VFC API solution: Actual final port terminal berthing date-time and terminal name are now included in the response. Available to InTransit VFC API solution users

October 2021

New features

  • New Area Details Page: (October 13) There is a new area details page for users’ Custom Areas, allowing access to relevant information (based on user’s services access and Notifications set) regarding vessels currently in their Custom Area, vessels entered, left or crossed this area. Registered users can access some of the information on this page while full access is available to users with 1000 Custom areas provided on Professional Plus Plan
  • New Voyage Report feature: (October 20) A PDF version of the MarineTraffic Voyage Report is now available for users to download, share, and store. — Available to users with Fleet Operations Solution
  • New feature added on Areas Notifications: (October 20) Users are now able to set up an ETA to Area Notification and get alerted if a vessel will enter a defined area. —  Available to users with Fleet Operations Solution

Improvements

  • Search (Live Map): (October 6) Users can now search and locate on the MarineTraffic Live Map any company listed on our directory. Available to all users 

September 2021

New features

  • New InTransit Visibility for Containers (VFC) API solution: (September 3) InTransit Visibility for Containers (VFC) API solution. This solution allows you to get a dynamic predictive ETA to the next and final port of discharge for your shipments, also considering transhipments. It combines Carrier’s Track & Trace, Operational Vessel Schedules and AIS. — Available as an API
  • New Live Map Layers feature: (September 3o) SafetyNET Areas have been added to the MarineTraffic Livemap. On Live map layers, users can now access a visualization of areas addressed in navigational and meteorological warnings, meteorological forecasts, and other urgent safety-related messages broadcast to ships via the Inmarsat EGC system.  Available to users with access to Professional, Professional Plus and FleetOps
  • New Detail Pages feature: (September 3o) There is a new dedicated page type for SafetyNet Areas, allowing access to relevant information regarding vessels currently in the area, vessels entered and left in the last 24 hours as well as various information of interest. Available to users with relevant alert notifications set, Professional Plus and FleetOps

Improvements

  • Data Exploration: (September 8) A new dataset combining vessel’s positions with Weather data in hourly resolution Available to all users with access to Voyage Data history available with Professional, Professional Plus and FleetOps (for Managed vessels)
  • Live Map Layers: (September 8) New markers have been added to the live map when displaying small areas. The markers help locate small areas when the live map is focused on a larger area and indicate the type and colour of the area. — Available to all users that have custom areas, and users with access to standard areas (Professional, Professional Plus, FleetOps)
  • Data Exploration: (September 15) On this page the content per category is increased including a) Giving access to many more results b) Achieving better results by accessing more information per result and easily identifying which result corresponds better to the users’ needs c) Informs user about personalised content and guides them to log in to have access to “My notification”, “My custom areas”, “My notes” etc. — Available to all users
  • Data Services (API): (September 23) A new technical API documentation page that is OpenAPI specification compliant has been introduced. — Available to all users
  • Data Exploration Tool: (September 30) Ability to view all the vessels for the specific company & type from vessel details in the data exploration tool. Available to users with Vessel Particulars or a Plan

Fixed issues

  • Data Services (API): (September 30) Fixed bug that did not allow searching of single vessel positions when using MMSI as an identifier.Available to all PS07 users

August 2021

New features

  • New feature added on Vessel Filters: (August 16) A new smart filter is now available and allows users to identify vessels that are currently manoeuvring. — Available with Advanced Live Map, Professional Plan, Professional Plus Plan, and the Fleet Operations Solution

Improvements

  • Notifications: (August 25) We have now added the option to display the custom area, area of interest, and port name on the notification overview when the additional asset is: a vessel or fleet. Available to all users (Notifications priced with credits)

July 2021

New features

  • New API service – Data Services (API), Passage Plan: (July 2) Introduced API service for ECDIS Passage Plan import. Users with this service are able to import a Passage Plan by calling related API.Available only to Fleet Operations Solution customers
  • Notifications: (July 27) Introduced the Arrival Delay Risk Notification. This allows the user to get notified when a vessel is predicted to be delayed to reach a defined port for more than a specified number of hours when compared to a defined planned ETA. — Available to all users (Notifications priced with credits)

Improvements

  • Custom Areas – Live Map: (July 2) We added the Custom Area Description, and it is now available to view on the Custom Area Info window on the Live Map. — Available to all Basic, Professional Plus, 1000 Custom areas users
  • Live Map Layers – Areas of Interest: (July 7) The Info Windows area now contains a “centre on map” button that allows users to zoom in/out automatically when the area is too small or too large and fit the viewport of the map to the area surface.  Our users can now Fit Bounce the map to an area when the area is not visible. — Available to Advanced Live Map, Professional and Professional Plus users, as well as Fleet Operations Solution customers
  • Single Services: (July 7) Starting now, “Advanced Live Map” & “Nautical Charts” two of our most popular services will be offered through “Professional Plus”. Check out “Professional Plus” on our plans page and experience the benefit of all your professional needs today. — Available to all users
  • Density Maps: (July 21) The 2020 Density maps are now available on MarineTraffic. — Available to all users (For Density Maps per Vessel category, users must have “Advanced Density Maps” service)
  • Areas of Interest: (July 21) Areas that were too small for users to see on the Live Map are now indicated with a marker, making the handling of small areas on the Live Map – Standard Areas – easier. — Available to all Advanced Live Map, Professional and Professional Plus users, as well as Fleet Operations Solution customers
  • Voyage Report: (July 28) We have now added the Current Factor calculation to the Voyage Report. This is actually a graph that indicates the effect the currents have on the vessel speed throughout the voyage for a correct current factor calculation that will take into account both the speed and the direction of the vessel. — Available to all Fleet Operations Solution customers
  • Data Services: (July 28) There has been a Wizard enhancement as we have now added the visual representation of selected Custom Area on PS08 wizard during API set-up when users select a Custom Area. — Available to all PS08 API users

June 2021

New features

  • New Reverse Geocoding API – Data Services (API): (June 9) Released GI01 – Reverse Geocoding of a Single Point API service. Users with this service are able to know with which geometries and assets a given point of coordinates intersects or is nearby. — Available to all users
  • New features added to Voyage Report: (June 16) Our Post Voyage Report has been enhanced with new weather data, including waves and currents, that users can use to set thresholds for Good Weather. More control of what is displayed on the detailed timeline is now available, with the ability to set different position frequencies and the option to display vessel events. The report can now be edited after it has been created so that settings can be updated offering greater ease of use. — Available with our Fleet Operation Solution
  • New Custom Areas collaboration feature : (June 23) Now, our users can share Custom Areas with other MarineTraffic users and have the shared Custom Area available throughout the site. — Available to Professional Plus Plan & 1000 Custom Areas users

Improvements

  • Search (Live Map): (June 9) Now, our users can enjoy enhanced MarineTraffic search capabilities. We added help pages to the Global Search results as a new group/filter. Type ‘How to’ & ‘Why’, and find useful help articles for the most commonly asked questions. — Available to all users
  • Plans Page: (June 23) Our ‘Global’ plan has a new name now: ‘Professional Plus’. It is enhanced with powerful professional tools, designed to add value to your daily operations. Explore our plans page to find the best solution for your needs. — Available to all users

Fixed issues

  • Station Info Window – Vessels in Range: (June 2) Fixed an issue where a feature to view the vessels in a range of a terrestrial station was not producing results. — Available to all users
  • Data Services (API): (June 9) Fixed an issue where VD03 API response fields were not returned in the correct order for JSON protocol. — Available to all VD03 API users

  • Vessel Filters: (May 12) Resolved an issue where users affected couldn’t apply vessel filters on Internet Explorer 11. — Available to all users
  • Live Map Layers: (May 12) Resolved an issue where the projected course was not displayed for some vessels. — Available to all users
  • Live Map Layers: (May 19) Resolved an issue where the Nautical Charts option was missing from the Map Type selector on the Live Map — Available to Nautical Charts, Professional Plus Plan users

  • Playback: (April 7) Fixed an issue with Playback not responding when searching for vessels. — Available to Playback Lite, Playback Plus users
  • Live Map: (April 7) Fixed an issue with Live Map Alerts remaining open after being clicked. — Available to all users
  • Live Map, Past Track: (April 7) Corrected an issue where the past track would remain drawn on the live map after exiting until the page was refreshed. — Available to all users
  • Past Track, Route Forecast: (April 7) Corrected an issue causing the currents to appear with higher values on Past Track and Route Forecast. — Available to Voyage Data Lite, Plus/and Professional Plan/ Professional Plus Plan users
  • Embed Map: (April 21) Fixed an issue where the Past Track of vessels was not appearing on Embedded Maps. 
  • My Fleets: (April 21) Resolved an issue where My Fleets showed out-of-date positions for some vessels.
  • Embedded Maps: (April 28) Fixed an issue where the past track was not always displayed for users on MT embedded maps. —  Available to all users/ Only on embedded MT maps
