Marine Gallery February 2018

Welcome to the Marine Gallery of January 2018, a monthly segment on our blog featuring the five best pictures of every month, selected by members of the MarineTraffic Photo Moderators. These could include images of vessels, ports or lighthouses from around the world.

Fowairet
The Fowairet is a container vessel that falls under the Panamax Max container category with a maximum TEU capacity of 3,800. She was spotted in Pointe des Galets, which is a cape in the north west of the Réunion island, across Madagascar. Reunion island is a French department in the Indian Ocean with a population of 843,617.

 

Nissos Chios
This highspeed ro-pax ferry is the Nissos Chios. It was built at the Elefsis Shipyards, along with her sister vessel Nissos Mykonos and was spotted in Kavala. The city is located in northern Greece, is eastern Macedonia’s principle seaport and the capital of the regional unit Kavala. It is built amphitheatrical on the slopes of mount Symvolo and is one of the most picturesque cities in Greece.

 

Rhea sailing vessel
Rhea is a sailing vessel spotted by Bill Miller in Sint Maarten. Sint Maarten, although located in the Caribbean, it belongs to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and is shared with Saint Martin, a French overseas region. It is a country in the southern part of a Caribbean island and its currency is the Netherlands Antillean guilder.

 

Christina Kirk tanker
The Christina Kirk is an oil products tanker,with 53,540 deadweight metric tons and has the British flag. She was spotted in the port of Vancouver, which is located on Canada’s west coast. It supports trade with more than 170 economies around the world, being the country’s largest port.

 

Queen Mary II
This passenger vessel and transatlantic ocean liner is the Queen Mary II, she was spotted in Pointe des Galets. She was named after Mary of Teck, Empress of India as the wife of King George V and Queen of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions. After the vessel Queen Elizabeth II retired in 2008, Queen Mary II is the only transatlantic ocean liner between Southampton and New York.
